In Poland, the supply of tangerines has increased this season
The holiday peak in demand for citrus fruits on the Polish market is over. However, this season the demand for mandarins has been lower than expected. In addition, the supply of these citrus fruits this season has increased significantly compared to the same period last year.Another issue is the quality and appearance of the tangerines currently offered. For the most part, these are fruits of not the best appearance and mostly small in size. This is the result of unfavorable weather conditions that prevailed in Spain during the growing season of these fruits, and as we know, Spain dominates the Polish tangerine market. Also, today in Poland there are tangerines made in Greece, but in terms of quality, they are no better than Spanish ones.
Weaker demand, higher supply and unfavorable appearance - it’s easy to guess what this means for tangerine prices. In the current season, prices for these citrus fruits were already much lower than last year, and now, when the holiday period is over, the prices for tangerines have dropped even more. Currently, tangerines are offered in large wholesale on the Polish market at prices in the range of 2.60-6.00 zlotys/kg ($ 0.69-1.60/kg), which is on average 22% cheaper than in the same period last year.
